The Plot: A 1995 film by Lodge Kerrigan that examines the inner workings of a schizophrenic father, played by Peter Greene.
The Pros: Greene's performance is shattering. The intensity and cruelty which he brings to his character is astounding in its depth. The cinematography succeeds beautifully by inspecting faces and objects very closely. Most importantly, however, the sound work is some of the best I've ever heard. It completes the experience of the character's schizophrenia by making sound just as important as video.
The Cons: Not many. If anything, it pains me to know that this film remains unwatched by many people.
The Bottom Line: Clean, Shaven is a masterpiece of collaboration. The actors, especially Greene, the audio, and the video work together in near-perfect harmony to create one of the most surreal, disturbing, and harrowing film experiences of all time. If only more people would see it.
The Score: 9.5 / 10
